6 reasons why the Toyota Kluger is a perfect family SUV | Phil Gilbert Toyota
The Toyota Kluger is one of Australia's most popular SUVs since the first-generation model arrived in 2003. That surprises no one, as the Kluger offers an unbeatable combination of comfort, convenience, capabilities and the reliability for which Toyota SUV’s are known. However, what makes the Kluger so exceedingly popular among Australian families? Here are six findings as to why:
1. Versatile Seven-Seat Layout
The Kluger is a highly-flexible seven-seat SUV that can be configured quickly and easily in a wide variety of ways and yet still provide plenty of room. With three rows of seating, with the second and third-rows both featuring a 60:40 split there’s plenty of room for the family, even if it includes a few extra members from time-to-time. Leather-accented seats are standard on GXL and Grande trim. Second and third-row passengers have their own climate control settings, so no one is ever too hot or too cold.
2. Easy Parking
Maneuver safely in and out of difficult spots with the reversing camera and front and rear parking sensors in the Grande, which also features a panoramic view monitor to give you a bird’s-eye view of your vehicle’s surroundings, so you know when there’s enough room for a rear seat passenger on the other side to swing open their door. It also works with Rear Cross Traffic Alert to detect cars as you back out of a parking space.
3. Safety Features
A series of safety technologies previously fitted exclusively to the top-grade Kluger Grande is now standard on the range, including the GX and the mid-range GXL. These Kluger safety technologies, which help prevent or mitigate a collision in a range of different traffic situations, include a pre-collision safety system, autonomous emergency braking, lane-departure alert, active cruise control and automatic high beam. Standard are also seven SRS airbags, seat-belt warning, Vehicle Stability Control, and Hill-assist Assist Control.
4. Family-size Storage
With the third-row seat folded the Kluger can swallow up to 529 L of cargo or luggage so there’s plenty of room for a family of five to drive their Kluger on an extended vacation. Need even more room in the Kluger? The Kluger is configured to accommodate Toyota genuine roof racks to expand storage.
The centre console box between the front seats can hold up to 24.5 L, from books and entertainment for the kids to an average-sized handbag, keeping your Kluger decluttered and comfortable, while beneath the instrument panel you’ll find a wide shelf providing generous storage for larger items that’s also designed to prevent the contents from slipping out.
5. Rear Seat Entertainment
The Grande model plays Blu-ray movies on a 9” screen allowing front seat passengers to engage in conversation or simply listen to the radio, included are three sets of wireless headsets so you can drive without distraction.
6. Rear Hatch
This abundance of versatile storage space is easily accessed through the rear door, with the added convenience of powered opening and closing on GXL and Grande trims. In addition, the glass rear window operates separately so if you need to only slip a sack of groceries into the back you needn’t open the entire rear hatch.
