How the 2020 RAV-4 Stacks Up Against the Competition | Phil Gilbert Toyota

Sleek styling, hybrid efficiency, and a whole new way of interacting with your vehicle. There are so many reasons the 2020 RAV4 is a great choice - and that’s before we even mention the 8 awards it has won, including Drive 2020 Car of the Year. When it comes to commanding performance and adventurous design, let’s see how the RAV4 stacks up against the competition.

It’s a better performer on fuel consumption

SUVs often get a bad rep for their impact on the planet, and for the vast volumes of fuel they gobble up. Despite its size, the RAV4 emits only the same amount of CO2 as a 1-litre Ford Fiesta, making it considerably more frugal than its direct competitors.

To compare side-by-side, the RAV4 boasts low emissions of just 103g/km, while the Honda CR-V Hybrid emits 126g/km, and the Mazda CX-5 pumps out as much as 145g/km. The RAV4 is also estimated to depreciate at a slower rate than others in its class. Kinder to the environment, lighter on your pocket.

It’s better prepared for adventure

When it comes to going off the beaten track, contenders like the CR-V are no match for the Toyota RAV4. It has no issues getting torque to the ground on any surface, and its ruggedness gives it good all-terrain capability, even when the going gets rough. The CR-V, on the other hand, is clearly out of its comfort zone when taken off the roads. As it comes in all-wheel drive and not 4-wheel drive, it could struggle to get over obstacles on difficult terrains.

It can also only tow half of what the RAV4 can. When it comes to power and acceleration, the RAV4 gets ahead with a standard 203 horsepower, 2.5 litre engine compared to the two engines of the CR-V, which only put out 184 and 190 horsepower.

It comes with advanced safety features as standard

The full suite of Toyota SafetySense comes as standard with the RAV4, with highly protective features making this a class leader. Preparing you for whatever’s beyond the horizon, this SUV is fitted with a Pre-collision Safety System, Active Cruise Control and Road Sign Assist - for wraparound protection and peace-of-mind.

Honda’s comparable driving assist technologies only come with CR-V EX trims and later. All versions of the RAV4 carry a 5-star ANCAP safety rating.
