Toyota 86: the most exciting track-proven sports car ever made | Phil Gilbert Toyota
Track-Proven Performance
At the heart of this sports car is a potent 2.0-liter flat-four engine that is capable of 152.9 kW and 156 lb.-ft. of torque. Like any high-class track-proven car the engine, with its horizontally opposed pistons and compact packaging, sits low in the chassis for optimal balance and performance. The manual-transmission version of the Toyota 86 has been revised to reduce friction and pumping loss, which aids in providing an optimized power curve.
Although built much like a race car, the 2017 Toyota 86 offers the fuel savings of a typical sedan - with an estimated fuel-savings of 8.9 km/L combined. Designed for heightened response both on and off the track, the updated Toyota 86 is equipped with a rear differential that helps improve low-end acceleration.
Best of all, the automatic transmission equipped 86 comes standard with steering wheel-mounted paddle shifters that allows the driver to quickly change gears while keeping both hands on the wheel.
Classic Sports Car Profile
Designed with a classic sports car profile the Toyota 86 brings this design into the modern age. With a long bonnet to short boot, each surface of this contemporary sports car is designed to help give this ride a high wind-cheating drag coefficient as well as a high-level of performance.
New vortex generators on the fenders also aid in controlling turbulent airflow, aiding in the stability of Toyota’s powerful sports car. The 86 also flaunts its performance credibility with a chrome-tipped dual exhaust system with high-grade, corrosion-resistant stainless steel.
A leather-wrapped steering wheel that feels great in your hands and, thanks to the smaller diameter and quick-ratio steering, feels like the 86 was built for taking each corner thrown at it.
High Profile Technology
From the built-in, large display navigation system to push-button start/stop the 2017 Toyota 86 is as ready for the future as you are. This sports car also comes standard with a rearview camera and an eight-speaker Pioneer audio system and Bluetooth for hands-free phone capability and music streaming.
STAR Safety System
The 2017 Toyota 86 comes standard with the STAR Safety System™ which features an Anti-lock Brake System (ABS), Electronic Brake Distribution (EBD), Traction Control (TRAC), Brake Assist (BA), Vehicle Stability Control (VSC) and Smart Stop Technology (SST).
The supplemental restraint system also includes driver and front passenger dual-stage advanced airbags, driver and front passenger seat-mounted side airbags, and front and rear passenger side curtain airbags. The rear seats can even accommodate front-facing child seats.
